X tightens Paid Partnerships rules: gambling now explicitly barred from organic sponsored collaborations

X’s Help Center policy for Paid Partnerships lists “gambling products and services” as a prohibited industry, meaning creators cannot run disclosed, compensated organic posts for betting, casinos, lotteries, or similar offers — even though gambling may still be permitted via X Ads in approved markets.

X’s Paid Partnerships Policy defines a paid partnership broadly — covering not only direct sponsorship payments, but also affiliate commissions, discount/referral codes, gifted products/services, and brand-ambassador style commercial agreements. Any organic post that qualifies must include a clear disclosure such as “Ad” or “Promoted Content.”

At the same time, the policy’s Prohibited Industries section states that “Gambling products and services (including lotteries, social casinos, sports betting, and other gambling related content)” are not eligible for Paid Partnership promotion. In practice, this blocks disclosed organic commercial collaborations for gambling operators and affiliates on X under the Paid Partnerships framework.

X also draws a hard line between paid partnerships and advertising: the Help Center notes that Paid Partnerships policies are distinct from X Ads, and content prohibited under paid partnerships may still be permissible through ads. X’s advertising rules for gambling confirm that promotion can be allowed only with restrictions and, in some cases, prior authorization, depending on the jurisdiction.

For the gambling industry, the immediate impact is a compliance squeeze for influencer and affiliate marketing on X: if a post is commercially compensated and disclosed, it risks violating the Paid Partnerships prohibition — while running the same message through X Ads shifts it into a different rulebook with licensing, targeting, and approval requirements.
