Kenya's track star Beatrice Chebet wins women's 5,000m gold in Paris
Kenya's Beatrice Chebet triumphed in the women's 5,000 meters at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The race, held at the iconic Stade de France, was filled with drama and excitement. Chebet, known for her strategic racing and powerful finishing kick, crossed the finish line in an impressive time of 14 minutes and 28.56 seconds.
Her compatriot, Faith Kipyegon, initially finished second but was controversially disqualified for obstruction during a clash with Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay. However, after a successful appeal by the Kenyan team, Kipyegon was reinstated and awarded the silver medal.
The Dutch runner Sifan Hassan, originally from Ethiopia, secured a bronze medal.
Chebet’s victory adds to her impressive track record, including a silver medal at the 2022 World Championships and a bronze at the 2023 World Championships. Her gold medal in Paris solidifies her status as one of the top distance runners in the world.
