Brazil’s national self-exclusion portal hits 153,000 requests in first 20 days online
Launched in mid-December, Brazil’s centralised self-exclusion platform on the Ministry of Finance website has already received around 153,000 requests from people wanting to block their access to online betting sites, signalling a decisive shift toward nationwide responsible gambling controls.
Brazil’s new national self-exclusion system reached a major milestone by the final hours of 2025. According to the Ministry of Finance, around 153,000 people submitted self-exclusion requests in the first 20 days of the platform’s operation, an average of roughly five requests per minute.
The Centralized Self-Exclusion Platform went live on 10 December 2025 on the Ministry’s gov.br portal, allowing citizens to block their access to all betting websites authorised by the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA). Once a request is made, the bettor’s CPF (tax ID) is automatically prevented from logging in to existing accounts, opening new registrations or receiving targeted marketing from any of the 182 licensed betting operators connected to the system.
Players can choose to self-exclude for a fixed period of between one and twelve months or for an indefinite duration, and the decision cannot be reversed until the selected period has expired. The platform also signposts users to mental-health support services through Brazil’s public healthcare network, reinforcing its role as part of a broader harm-reduction policy.
Data released by the Ministry highlight why Brazilians are using the tool. Around 34 per cent of applicants cited “loss of control over gambling – mental health” as their main reason for self-exclusion, while 28 per cent said they wanted to prevent their personal data from being used by betting platforms. Regulators stress that centralised self-exclusion is internationally recognised as a key responsible gambling measure and say the early adoption numbers confirm strong public demand for stricter safeguards in the rapidly expanding online betting market.
The tool is directly aligned with the SPA’s 2025–2026 regulatory agenda, which prioritises player protection alongside market development. For operators, the rapid uptake means compliance teams must ensure real-time integration with the Ministry’s exclusion list and adapt onboarding, marketing and account-management flows to reflect a much more centralised approach to responsible gambling in Brazil.
