Brazil Accountant Arrested in “Narco Bet” Case for Laundering Millions Through Betting Sites

Brazilian federal authorities have detained a well-known accountant accused of laundering drug money through betting websites connected to the so-called “Narco Bet” network — a criminal organization allegedly using online gambling to move and conceal illicit funds.

According to Brazil’s Federal Police, the suspect acted as a financial coordinator for the scheme, channeling millions of reals in proceeds from drug trafficking through shell companies and offshore betting accounts. Investigators say the accountant set up payment routes and foreign entities to disguise the origin of the money and to make it appear as legitimate gaming revenue.

Preliminary evidence shows that part of the funds were transferred through unregulated betting platforms operating across multiple jurisdictions, allowing rapid movement of cash between Brazil and tax havens. Authorities believe this strategy helped the group avoid financial tracking and reporting obligations.

The operation is part of a wider investigation into the “Narco Bet” network, which has links to organized crime groups involved in both drug distribution and online gambling. Federal agents have already carried out raids, seized assets, and frozen accounts connected to the case.

Officials said the investigation aims to expose how criminal organizations exploit the lack of oversight in Brazil’s gambling market to launder profits from illegal activities. “This case highlights the urgent need for stronger monitoring of betting transactions and more robust regulation,” said one officer involved in the probe.

The accused remains in custody while the Federal Police continue their forensic audit of betting transactions and digital payment flows. More arrests are expected as the investigation expands.
