Zimbabwe warns against illegal gambling operations, threatens shutdowns and prosecution

Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe has issued a stern warning to individuals and entities operating gaming shops and casinos without proper licenses in Zimbabwe. Kazembe emphasized that such activities are illegal and pose significant threats to public safety.

In a statement, Kazembe highlighted that some gaming establishments have failed to obtain the necessary approvals from the Lotteries and Gaming Board of Zimbabwe (LGB) and are therefore operating illegally. He noted that this contravenes Section 31 of the Lotteries and Gaming Act, which prohibits such activities.

Kazembe expressed concern that these illegal operations target unsuspecting individuals, putting them at risk of exploitation. He emphasized that the government will not tolerate any unlawful gaming activities within the country's borders and urged the public to report any suspected illegal operations to the LGB or the nearest police station.

The Minister assured that the government will take decisive action against unauthorized gaming operations. The Lotteries and Gaming Board, working closely with key enforcement agencies, will shut down any unlicensed casinos, gaming shops, or betting facilities and prosecute those responsible.

It should be noted that the Lotteries and Gambling Board of Zimbabwe is responsible for issuing licenses for casinos, sports betting, gambling halls, and lotteries. The Lotteries and Gambling Act of 2002 additionally sanctioned online sports betting and established licensing protocols for it.
