Zimbabwe Lotteries and Gaming Board inducts newly appointed board members in governance workshop
The three-day induction at Mana Resort in Harare focused on oversight duties, regulatory operations, and governance standards as the LGB prepares its new board to supervise lotteries and gambling under the Lotteries and Gaming Act.
Zimbabwe’s Lotteries and Gaming Board (LGB) has inducted newly appointed board members through a three-day training workshop designed to prepare them for oversight of the country’s gambling and lottery activities. The induction brought together new board members and LGB staff for sessions on governance, regulatory oversight, and how the authority operates in practice.
The workshop was opened by Dr Eugenia Chidhakwa, Chairperson of the LGB, who welcomed the incoming members and emphasized the importance of strong institutional leadership at a time when regulators across the region face growing scrutiny over compliance, consumer protection, and illegal gambling. In official messaging referenced in coverage, the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage noted that Chidhakwa welcomed the new members at the induction held at Mana Resort in Harare.
The LGB operates under the Lotteries and Gaming Act and sits under the portfolio of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, which provides policy direction and governance oversight. The induction, therefore, is not just ceremonial—it is meant to align board members with the statutory responsibilities and decision-making standards expected of a national regulator.
With a refreshed board now formally briefed on its mandate, the next test will be how quickly governance training translates into practical outcomes—stronger supervision of licensees, clearer compliance expectations, and more consistent action against illegal activity that undermines regulated operators.
