Wolverhampton become the first team relegated from the Premier League in 2025/26

Wolverhampton Wanderers have become the first club to be relegated from the Premier League this season after results elsewhere confirmed they can no longer escape the bottom three.

Wolves’ relegation was officially confirmed on 20 April after West Ham United drew 0-0 away to Crystal Palace. That result left West Ham on 33 points in 17th place, while Wolves remained on 17 points with only five matches left to play, meaning they can no longer catch the teams above the drop zone.

The final blow had effectively begun two days earlier, when Wolves were beaten 3-0 by Leeds United. After that defeat, the club needed favourable results from rivals to keep even a mathematical chance of survival alive, but West Ham’s draw ended that hope and sent Wolves down with games still remaining in the campaign.

It brings an end to Wolves’ eight-year stay in the Premier League. The club now sits 20th in the table with 17 points from 33 matches, having won only three league games all season, and must now turn its focus toward a Championship rebuild after one of the most difficult campaigns in the division.

For the Premier League relegation battle, Wolves are now the first side officially down, while the pressure shifts to the other teams still fighting to avoid joining them. For Wolves themselves, the key question is no longer survival, but how quickly they can regroup and build a squad capable of returning to the top flight.
