Vietnam Police Uncover Gambling Network With US$38.61M in Transactions

Police in Vietnam’s Hung Yen province have uncovered an online gambling network operating through the Net.win platform, with more than VND1 trillion (US$38.61 million) processed through bank accounts linked to the system.

Police in northern Vietnam have uncovered a major online gambling network operating through the Net.win website, identifying transactions worth more than VND1 trillion (US$38.61 million).

The investigation began after authorities received a complaint involving a resident of Tien Tien Commune who said he had opened an account on Net.win in early 2025 to play games including “Tai xiu” and “Tai xiu SHA”. Players deposited money into bank accounts provided by the platform, with funds converted into virtual points that could later be exchanged back into cash.

Bank records showed that the player made 165 deposits worth nearly VND2 billion between February 8 and October 16, 2025. Investigators subsequently found that Net.win used 13 bank accounts at different financial institutions, through which more than VND1 trillion was processed.

Police allege that people behind the network hired third parties to open bank accounts in their own names in exchange for monthly payments. Account holders were also required to complete facial scans and other biometric verification when instructed to authorize transfers.

Authorities have so far identified 16 people allegedly involved in gambling activity after reviewing transactions of at least VND5 million between players and the platform. Individual losses ranged from several million to hundreds of millions of dong.

The investigation remains ongoing as police work to identify those responsible for managing the network and trace how the funds were moved. Authorities have also warned the public against renting, lending or selling bank accounts and performing biometric authentication for third parties, noting that such practices can be used to facilitate criminal operations.

The case once again highlights the role of bank accounts and digital payment infrastructure in Vietnam’s illegal online gambling market. Identifying the individuals controlling the Net.win network and the final destination of the more than VND1 trillion processed through its accounts will now be a key focus of the investigation.
