Uruguay’s historic Salto Racecourse announces five-state-sponsored race meetings for 2026
The Salto Racecourse, one of Uruguay’s most traditional equestrian venues, is preparing for a significant revival in 2026 with five confirmed race meetings to be sponsored by Casinos del Estado, according to Jockey Club Salto President Ariel Ugartemendia.
The announcement marks an important step in revitalizing the venue’s racing activity. After years of reduced programming, the 2026 calendar will formally reintegrate Salto into Uruguay’s national racing circuit. Ugartemendia emphasized that securing the support of Casinos del Estado was key to ensuring financial stability and expanding opportunities for local breeders, trainers and jockeys.
The 2026 schedule will include five officially sanctioned race meetings, bringing renewed visibility to the northern region’s equestrian ecosystem. The initiative is aligned with Uruguay’s broader effort to strengthen regional racing infrastructure and promote tourism tied to equestrian sport.
Industry representatives note that Salto’s return adds depth to the racing calendar, diversifies geographic participation and offers new engagement opportunities for bettors and operators focused on the Uruguayan horse-racing market.
With preparations already underway, the Salto Racecourse is expected to play a more prominent role in the country’s equine sport landscape next year.
