The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) conducted a significant stakeholder engagement with gaming operators in Uganda, aimed at enhancing regulatory compliance within the industry. The event took place at the Ministry of Finance Planning and Economic Development’s Conference Hall in Kampala and focused on critical issues such as responsible gaming, anti-money laundering (AML) compliance, and tax obligations.

NLGRB officials underscored their commitment to collaborating with gaming operators to ensure adherence to the Lotteries and Gaming Act, 2016. A primary focus was the implementation of responsible gaming measures to safeguard vulnerable populations, particularly young individuals at risk of problem gambling. The Board outlined plans for stricter regulations, including enhanced age verification processes.

Chairman Aloysius Mugasa Adyeri expressed gratitude to the gaming operators for their participation, emphasizing the Board's dedication to improving the industry's image. He stated, “Responsible gaming is the core responsibility of all stakeholders, especially gaming operators.”

The engagement also highlighted the dual role of technology in regulatory compliance, with the NLGRB urging operators to integrate their systems with the National Central Electronic Monitoring System (NCEMS) to promote transparency and accountability.

Gaming operators responded positively, with Jonathan Bakwega, a representative from the casino sector, commending the Board for fostering a cooperative relationship.

This stakeholder engagement is part of the NLGRB's ongoing initiatives to promote responsible gaming and enhance transparency and accountability within Uganda's gaming industry.
