Uganda's Cheptegei makes history with gold and Olympic record in men's 10,000m at Paris 2024

Joshua Cheptegei of Uganda made history at the Paris Olympics by winning the gold medal in the men's 10,000 meters, setting a new Olympic record with a time of 26:43.14.

This remarkable achievement not only secured his first Olympic gold but also broke the previous record of 27:01.17 set by Ethiopian legend Kenenisa Bekele in 2008.

Competing at the Stade de France, Cheptegei, faced strong competition, particularly from Ethiopian runner Berihu Aregawi, who finished just 0.3 seconds behind him, claiming the silver medal. American Grant Fisher earned the bronze.

The gold medal of the Ugandan runner was the second for Africa at these Paris Olympics, following South African swimmer Tatyana Schoenmaker's gold in the women's 100m breaststroke.
