Uganda's Casino Golden City Limited temporarily shuts down

Casino Golden City Limited, one of Uganda’s licensed land-based casino operators for 2024, has announced a temporary shutdown of its operations. The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) made this announcement on November 4, 2024, citing the need for adherence to regulatory requirements.

The closure comes in line with the provisions of the Lotteries and Gaming Act, which mandates strict compliance with established gaming regulations. The NLGRB, which is tasked with licensing and regulating gaming establishments across Uganda, ensures that all casino operations uphold legal standards and promote responsible gaming.

As of 2024, Uganda hosts 12 licensed land-based casinos, all governed by the NLGRB under the Lotteries and Gaming Act of 2016. The regulatory body is responsible for issuing licenses, supervising operations, and enforcing compliance to safeguard players and maintain integrity within the gaming industry.
