Uganda operators face tight two-day window to renew licences for 2026
The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) in Uganda has given licensed gaming, betting and lottery operators only two days to complete their 2026 licence renewal applications — the deadline is set for 31 October 2025, and the regulator will not accept applications submitted after that date.
The renewal window opened on 3 October and runs until midnight 31 October via the NLGRB’s e-licensing platform. Licensed operators are required to provide updated documentation including fee payment, previous year’s audited turnover, proof of tax clearance, and compliance with responsible-gaming obligations. The renewal is mandatory to continue legal operation in Uganda’s regulated gaming market.
NLGRB Director-General Denis Mudene emphasised that “any delay beyond the deadline will result in automatic suspension of licences and potential cessation of operations” — underscoring the regulator’s tougher stance as the sector grows and seeks to formalise.
Industry observers say the compressed timetable puts pressure on operators to ensure full compliance, and also signals the regulator’s intent to weed out non-compliant or borderline operators ahead of anticipated reforms in Uganda’s gaming sector. Failure to renew by the deadline may expose operators to enforcement actions, including fines, machine seizures or closure of outlets.
