Uganda launches National Lottery campaign focused on responsible gaming practices
The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) has launched a collaboration with the Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) to promote responsible gaming practices. This initiative was unveiled during a stakeholder engagement on October 16, 2024, at the Four Points by Sheraton in Kampala.
The event gathered government officials, sports professionals, legal experts, and media representatives, including Hon. Geofrey Ssolo Kayemba and USPA President Moses Alsayed Lubega. NLGRB Chief Executive Officer Denis Mudene Ngabirano highlighted the growing trend of sports betting and the need for a safe environment for it to thrive.
Lubega emphasized USPA's role in civic education and plans to engage communities on responsible gaming. NLGRB’s Senior Manager for Regulatory Compliance, Mr. Muteesaasira Richard Kavuma, reminded journalists about the necessity of obtaining an intermediary license for sharing betting tips.
Mental health expert Mr. Ivan Musenero educated attendees on gambling addiction and urged vigilance for behavioral signs. This engagement marks the beginning of ongoing partnerships between NLGRB and USPA to foster responsible gaming in Uganda.
