Uganda has carried out an operation to curb illegal gambling, during which 50 slot machines were seized
A three-day operation to prevent illegal gambling took place in Uganda, during which the authorities seized more than 50 unlicensed slot machines.
Operation Mashine Haramu was conducted in cooperation between the NLGRB Lottery and Gambling Regulatory Council and the police. Bars and underground establishments in the cities of Masaka were checked, where more than 30 slot machines were seized, and in Mpigi, 20 slot machines were seized there.
One of the suspects was arrested as part of this campaign. According to the regulator, the detainee's name is Mvesigva Patricia, presumably, she operated slot machines in a bar without having a license.
The woman is expected to be charged in a Makindi standards court in accordance with the Lottery and Gambling Act.
NLGRB stated that anyone involved in the production, supply, assembly and operation of illegal slot machines is directly violating the law, depriving Governments of tax revenue and exposing vulnerable segments of society to the risk of gambling-related problems.
The authorities are calling for the detection of illegal operators to be reported by e-mail or toll-free line.
