ITHUBA Uganda, the official operator of the Uganda National Lottery, celebrated the grand launch of the lottery on Friday, July 26, at Speke Resort in Munyonyo, Kampala.

The event was attended by notable figures, including Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, and Finance Minister Matia Kasaija, highlighting the significance of the occasion for the nation.

The Uganda National Lottery is expected to generate substantial revenue, estimated at Shs 147 billion annually, which will be directed towards crucial sectors such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, and sports, thereby supporting Uganda's ongoing development.

Prime Minister Nabbanja emphasized the need for the government to prioritize the allocation of funds from the lottery to enhance infrastructure, education, and health services. She expressed optimism about the lottery's potential to serve as a source of hope and prosperity for all Ugandans.

ITHUBA Uganda, licensed to operate the lottery for the next ten years, has already invested over USD 41 million into the initiative. This year alone, the lottery is projected to contribute Shs 193 billion to the government, according to Minister Kasaija.

Bob Kabonero, Chairman of ITHUBA Uganda, expressed gratitude to the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board and the Ministry of Finance for their support in securing the lottery license. He acknowledged the contributions of telecommunications partners, local businesses, communities, and the media, stating, "Your support is instrumental as we work towards bringing meaningful change and transformation to Uganda."
