Tottenham part ways with Igor Tudor as Roberto De Zerbi emerges among leading candidates
Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Igor Tudor has left the club with immediate effect, while attention has already shifted to the race for the next head coach as Spurs try to avoid being dragged deeper into the Premier League relegation battle.
Tottenham announced on March 29 that it had been “mutually agreed” for Tudor to leave his role immediately. The club also confirmed the departures of goalkeeping coach Tomislav Rogic and physical coach Riccardo Ragnacci, adding that a further update on the next head coach would follow later. That wording matters because the official statement describes the split as a mutual decision rather than a simple dismissal.
Tudor’s spell ended after only seven matches and 44 days in charge. Reuters reported that he won just one of those seven games, while Tottenham remain 17th in the Premier League table, only one point above the relegation zone. The crisis deepened after the 3–0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest, which left the club on a 13-match winless run in the league.
The club also acknowledged a personal tragedy in Tudor’s family, noting that he had recently suffered a bereavement. That context has been part of the reporting around his departure, but it did not prevent Tottenham from moving quickly as they prepare for the final seven matches of the season and a fight to preserve their top-flight status.
As for the succession, Roberto De Zerbi has quickly become the most prominent name in the discussion. The Guardian reported that Tottenham are again trying to convince the former Brighton and Marseille coach to take the job immediately, even though he had previously preferred to wait until summer. AP, meanwhile, said De Zerbi is among the bookmakers’ leading candidates together with Adi Hütter, Sean Dyche and Ryan Mason, while Harry Redknapp has also publicly shown interest.
For Tottenham, the next appointment now looks less like a long-term strategic choice and more like an emergency decision that could define the rest of the season. With the club sliding toward one of the most dangerous positions in its modern Premier League history, the new coach will be judged first of all on one task: stopping the collapse quickly enough to keep Spurs in the division. This final assessment is an inference based on Tottenham’s league position, the timing of Tudor’s exit and the urgency described by multiple reports.
