TikTok Temporarily Suspends Real-Money Gambling Ads in the Philippines
TikTok has banned real-money gambling ads in the Philippines since August 22. This decision was made amid increasing scrutiny of online gambling in the Philippines. The social network explains the ban as a way to protect users and create a safer and more positive environment on the platform. Information and Communications Technology Minister Henry Aguda said: “This shows that even major global platforms are ready to join our cause.”
However, the ads were not banned completely, there are several conditions that must be met to allow such ads to be placed on TikTok:
- Companies must work with a TikTok sales representative to confirm compliance with the conditions and obtain official written permission.
- Documents must be provided confirming the existence of a gambling license issued by the regulatory body or authorized authorities of the Philippines.
- Ads must be shown to viewers at least 25 years old.
There is currently no information on when the ban will be lifted.
