Tanzania projects surge in gaming revenue for 2025/2026 fiscal year
According to Daily News Tanzania, the country's gaming industry generated 17.42 billion Tanzanian shillings in government revenue during the 2024/2025 financial year, with projections to increase collections to 29.89 billion shillings in the 2025/2026 fiscal year. The figures were presented in Parliament by Finance Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba during his budget implementation review and proposal for the upcoming fiscal year.
Dr. Nchemba noted that the Gaming Board of Tanzania had initially targeted collections of 24.89 billion shillings for the current fiscal year but had reached 17.42 billion so far. For 2025/2026, the Board aims to issue 14,124 licenses—845 new and 13,279 renewals.
Plans also include conducting 12 risk-based inspections and four operations to crack down on illegal gambling activities. These measures are expected to support the increased revenue target and enhance regulatory compliance within the sector.
