STJD fines Flamengo’s Bruno Henrique R$ 100,000 in match-fixing case player cleared to return
The Superior Tribunal de Justiça Desportiva (STJD) has closed its investigation into Flamengo forward Bruno Henrique for alleged involvement in match manipulation. The court imposed a fine of R$ 100,000 (≈ US$ 18,900) but lifted any suspension, allowing the player to continue representing Flamengo.
The final decision was reached on Thursday, November 13, 2025, during a plenary session of the STJD in Rio de Janeiro. Six of nine judges voted in favour of applying only a financial penalty, while three called for additional sanctions. Bruno Henrique was acquitted of the most serious charge under Article 243-A of Brazil’s Sports Justice Code (result manipulation), but found guilty under Article 191, which covers unsporting behaviour.
The tribunal concluded that while evidence did not support full manipulation, the player’s actions breached professional conduct standards, justifying the fine. His defence welcomed the ruling but plans to appeal the monetary penalty, arguing for a complete acquittal.
This case highlights the growing vigilance of Brazilian sports authorities in safeguarding integrity amid the expanding regulated betting market. For operators and integrity partners, it underscores the need for transparent data reporting and responsible engagement with professional competitions.
