In the US state of Kentucky, sports betting will become legal from September 7, 2023. The relevant law was adopted recently by the Legislative Assembly of the state.

The legislation will allow residents of the state to place retail and online bets on professional and collegiate sports, international sports, esports and video games. To do this, they will have to create accounts on the websites of licensed online betting operators, download a mobile application or visit a licensed bookmaker in person. Online sites that will operate in Kentucky include Caesar's Sportsbook, BetMGM, FanDuel and DraftKings.

Retail sports betting will be allowed at nine statewide racetracks. Gross betting income will be taxed at 9.75%. Racecourses will also be allowed to run up to three sports betting sites in cooperation with online operators. Income from online betting will be taxed at a rate of 14.25%.

The sector will be regulated by Kentucky Horse Racing Commission.
