SportPesa eyes Ksh 2 billion, 15-year deal to sponsor Kenyan Premier League
Kenya’s top-flight football is on the brink of a major revival as SportPesa enters advanced negotiations with the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) over a Ksh 2 billion, 15-year sponsorship deal for the Kenyan Premier League (KPL).
According to reporting by Kisure, the partnership would be one of the biggest financial commitments in Kenyan football history, with KPL clubs set to receive 60% of the total funding—Ksh 1.2 billion. The remaining Ksh 800 million would go to FKF to support league operations and development programs.
If finalized, the deal would mark SportPesa’s return to football sponsorship after its abrupt exit in 2019 and could provide much-needed stability to a league that has faced financial challenges and scheduling inconsistencies in recent years.
Stakeholders see the proposed sponsorship as a strategic move that could restore the KPL’s credibility, enhance player welfare, and bring back fan confidence. Both SportPesa and FKF are reportedly optimistic about concluding the agreement in time for the 2025/26 season.
