South Africa's Limpopo Gambling Board seizes 327 illegal gambling machines
The Limpopo Gambling Board (LGB) and its law enforcement partners are continuing their efforts to tackle illegal gambling activities across the Limpopo Province in South Africa.
Over the past six months, authorities have seized 327 illegal gambling machines, primarily Chinese Roulettes, from establishments operating without proper licenses, in violation of the Limpopo Gambling Act No. 3 of 2013. These illegal machines were destroyed on October 11, 2024.
The majority of the machines were confiscated in the Sekhukhune District, where 102 devices were seized, followed by 66 in the Mopani District Municipality and 60 in the Capricorn District Municipality. In the Waterberg District Municipality, 53 machines were confiscated, and 46 were seized in the Vhembe District Municipality. The LGB clarified that the lower numbers in Waterberg and Vhembe do not necessarily indicate fewer illegal gambling activities in those areas.
The LGB is urging community members to report any illegal gambling operations to their nearest South African Police Service station or contact CrimeStop at 08600 10111, or the LGB directly at 015 230 2300.
