South Africa's Gauteng Gambling Board cracks down on illegal operations
The Gauteng Gambling Board, in collaboration with the South African Police Service (SAPS) and cybercrime officials, successfully executed a raid on an illegal gambling operation in Vereeniging on October 24, 2024. This operation represents a significant step in the ongoing fight against illegal gambling activities in the province. Following extensive intelligence gathering, law enforcement identified the establishment operating without the necessary licenses and in violation of the Gambling Act.
During the raid, officers seized illegal gambling equipment, computers, and substantial cash linked to illicit activities. Mrs. Karabo Mbele, CEO of the Gauteng Gambling Board, commended the cooperation among enforcement agencies, stating, “This operation marks a decisive blow to illegal gambling operations in our province.” Several suspects were arrested and are currently facing prosecution.
The Gauteng Gambling Board plans to continue monitoring gambling activities in the region and urges the public to report any suspicious operations. The board emphasizes that combating illegal gambling is a collective responsibility and appreciates public support in maintaining a fair gaming environment.
