Sergipe Football Federation Investigates Match-Fixing Allegations
The Sergipe Football Federation (FSF) has opened an investigation into suspicions of match-fixing and player bribery in the state’s lower-division championships.
The case involves competitions in the A2 and A3 leagues, where irregularities linked to betting activities were reported by club officials and observers. The FSF immediately activated its Legal Department and notified the clubs involved. The matter has also been referred to the Public Ministry and the Federal Police for further investigation.
On September 30, the FSF convened a meeting with club presidents, civil and federal police representatives, and prosecutors to discuss the allegations and define preventive measures. Only one representative per club, usually the president, was invited to attend.
The Federation stated that it is maintaining close communication with all parties and will adopt strict sanctions if wrongdoing is proven. It also issued legal guidance to clubs in light of the seriousness of the allegations.
If confirmed, players and officials involved could face criminal charges, sporting bans, and severe reputational consequences under Brazilian law.
