São Paulo to dismiss former councilman Marlon Farias Luz from adviser post following illegal raffle investigation
The Municipality of São Paulo has confirmed that former city councillor Marlon Farias Luz will be dismissed from his BR 28,000 (US $5,230) per-month adviser position after an internal investigation uncovered alleged involvement in an illegal raffle scheme.
According to municipal authorities, Luz was appointed as a parliamentary adviser within City Hall but became the subject of an inquiry after evidence surfaced suggesting his participation in an unauthorized fundraising operation. The scheme reportedly involved the sale of raffle tickets promoted as benefiting public initiatives, though investigators say the activity lacked legal authorization and proper financial reporting.
City officials stated that the conduct was incompatible with public office and violated administrative integrity standards. As a result, the dismissal process is now underway, and Luz is expected to be formally removed from his duties. The case may also trigger further legal action depending on findings from ongoing investigative procedures.
The incident adds to a growing list of enforcement actions targeting irregular gambling-related activities across Brazil. Authorities continue to intensify scrutiny of unauthorized raffles, unlicensed betting operations and misuse of public roles for financial gain.
