Rwanda's gaming industry faces license suspension amid regulatory overhaul
The Rwanda Development Board (RDB) has announced a temporary halt on issuing new gaming licenses and renewing expired ones, following the Prime Minister's Order No. 028/03 dated June 28, 2024. This order designates RDB as the regulatory authority for all gaming activities in Rwanda.
As part of its new role, RDB is currently reviewing the policies and regulatory framework governing the gaming sector. The board emphasizes that this suspension is crucial for aligning regulations with modern standards and practices.
Potential applicants and current license holders are advised to await the approval of the new policy before proceeding with applications or renewals. RDB will provide updates on the policy review process through its official channels.
Rwanda's gaming industry encompasses a range of activities, including lotteries (both national and private), gaming machines (like slot machines), casinos (offering table games), sports betting, and online gaming.
