Regulators from ten countries gather in Lima for Ibero-American Gaming Summit

Regulators from ten countries gather in Lima for Ibero-American Gaming Summit. The ninth edition of this important international gaming industry forum concluded after three days of activities involving regulators, entrepreneurs, and sector associations. More than 120 attendees gathered in Lima on May 26, 27, and 28 to celebrate the 9th Ibero-American Gaming Summit, which was led by Peru's General Directorate of Casino Games and Slot Machines with significant institutional, business, and governmental participation.

The event's programming revolved around four thematic pillars that have characterized previous editions: regulation, internationalization, opportunities, and innovation, along with topics proposed by regulators from the different participating countries. Industry representatives including operators, manufacturers, and associations had the opportunity to debate with officials from Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Bolivia, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, Buenos Aires in Argentina, and host country Peru.

Regulators from these ten Ibero-American countries who participated in this edition of the Summit reaffirmed their commitment, support, and interest in generating and strengthening communication among all sector stakeholders. The forum maintained a dynamic format with more than 25 speakers addressing the most relevant topics for the sector from an Ibero-American perspective through various round tables and presentations.

Madeleine Burns, Peru's Vice Minister of Tourism, stated that MINCETUR was honored to receive representatives from gaming regulatory bodies from different Latin American and Caribbean jurisdictions, emphasizing Peru's selection as host based on its tourist, cultural, and culinary attractions. Yuri Guerra, General Director of Casino Games and Slot Machines at Peru's Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism, opened the forum by thanking private companies for trusting the state and noting that successful regulation ensures all operators move to the formal market.

Brazilian official Fabio Augusto Marcorin described the event as excellent and a valuable opportunity for Latin American betting regulators to share experiences and best practices. Chilean regulator Vivien Villagrán Acuña proposed creating a large Latin American committee for games of chance and luck to advance together along the same lines, while Colombian regulator Marco Emilio Hincapié suggested establishing a regional instance to coordinate gaming regulation across Latin America.

Industry representatives also expressed their satisfaction with the event, with Carlos Duelo from Cirsa noting that the Summit offered them the opportunity to share quality time with regulators from different countries where they operate, while Karen Sierra-Hughes emphasized their satisfaction as sponsors since the first edition and praised the open dialogue generated.
