Recipients of social assistance in Brazil will not be able to make deposits on online betting platforms

By the end of the year, the Brazilian government will ban recipients of Bolsa Família (family allowance) and BPC (permanent monetary allowance) benefits, which number about 20 million, from depositing new funds into the accounts of online gambling platforms. This is due to the pressure of the Supreme Court on the government to combat the transfer of money from social funds to online gambling accounts.

The ban will work as follows:

  1. Recipients of benefits will not be able to open new betting accounts.
  2. If you already have an account, you will be prohibited from making new deposits.

The Brazilian government plans to comply with the restrictions by using the CPF (Taxpayer Identification Number). The authorities require users to register a CPF and use it to open bank accounts. They also plan to require about 80 licensed sports betting operators to check the centralized system provided by the Federal Data Processing Service (Serpro) every time a new user registers or makes a deposit.

According to Regis Dudena, Minister of Prizes and Gambling at the Ministry of Finance, operators will not receive data on all users, but will have to check certain points so that recipients of Bolsa Família and BPC cannot spend social benefits on betting.

Dudena also said that the system will begin trial operation this month and will be fully operational by the end of the year.
