Real Madrid Reach Verbal Agreement With Manchester United Wonderkid JJ Gabriel

Real Madrid are reportedly closing in on the signing of 16-year-old Manchester United academy talent JJ Gabriel, with a potential January transfer raising questions over youth development and international transfer regulations.

Real Madrid have reportedly reached a verbal agreement with highly rated Manchester United prospect JJ Gabriel, according to Sky Sports reports published on November 4.

The 16-year-old forward is expected to be offered a long-term contract, with the Spanish club hoping to complete the move during the January 2027 transfer window.

Gabriel remains registered with Manchester United's academy until the end of the season. However, he reportedly requested to leave in September and has not trained with the club since.

Despite the reported personal agreement, no formal negotiations between Real Madrid and Manchester United had taken place as of November 4.

The proposed transfer presents additional complications because Gabriel is still a minor. FIFA regulations generally restrict international transfers of players under 18, although certain exceptions may apply to moves within the European Union for players aged 16 or 17.

Gabriel is reportedly working towards obtaining an EU passport through his family, which could help satisfy the applicable transfer requirements. FIFA approval would still be necessary.

Manchester United are understood to be considering legal action if they believe transfer regulations have been breached. The club could also be entitled to training compensation if the move is completed.

Gabriel attracted interest from several major European clubs, including Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.

The teenager previously impressed in United's youth system, earning the club's Academy Player of the Year award and recognition as the Premier League's Under-18 Player of the Season.

For Real Madrid, the potential signing would represent another investment in emerging talent. However, the deal remains unconfirmed, with regulatory approval and the clubs' positions still significant obstacles to its completion.
