PwC Report Highlights Gaming and Esports as Key Growth Drivers in Africa’s Entertainment Market
Africa’s gaming and esports industries are becoming central pillars of the continent’s entertainment economy, according to the new “Africa Entertainment and Media Outlook 2025–2029” report published by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
The PwC study identifies Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa as leading markets driving the sector’s growth. Gaming and esports are now among the fastest-expanding segments of Africa’s entertainment and media (E&M) landscape, supported by digitalisation, rising mobile connectivity, and a predominantly young population.
PwC notes that mobile gaming remains the dominant format across Africa, while esports continues to gain traction through competitive leagues, sponsorships, and streaming platforms. South Africa retains its position as the continent’s largest entertainment and media market, with Nigeria and Kenya showing double-digit growth in digital sectors.
The report highlights the increasing convergence between media, technology, and gaming — a trend shaping new revenue streams and content models across the region. PwC forecasts that this digital shift will continue to reshape consumer habits, as African audiences increasingly engage with interactive and online entertainment formats.
The PwC Africa Entertainment and Media Outlook 2025–2029 underscores that sustained infrastructure investment, clear regulation, and responsible innovation will be essential for maintaining growth momentum in Africa’s gaming and esports ecosystem.
