Province of Misiones Orders the Blocking of 112 Illegal Gambling Sites

In a sweeping judicial intervention, the province of Misiones (Argentina) has mandated that 112 clandestine gambling websites be blocked. The move, initiated by the local lottery authority, aims to curb illegal gaming and protect minors from unregulated platforms.

On 22 September 2025, the Civil and Commercial Court No. 3 in Posadas issued an injunction ordering all internet service providers in Misiones to immediately block access to 112 websites offering illegal online betting. The measure was triggered by a complaint from the Instituto Provincial de Lotería y Casinos de Misiones (IPLyC).

The ruling, signed by Judge Martín López, is based on Law 27.078, article 57, which allows intervention in digital domains to preserve public order and safeguard vulnerable groups. The resolution stresses the serious risks posed by unlicensed gambling, particularly for minors and families at risk.

According to IPLyC President Héctor Rojas Decut, the initiative is “a concrete step to protect our youth, families, and all residents of Misiones from the economic and emotional harm generated by clandestine gambling.”

Local authorities also warned that eight out of ten online bets in Argentina are believed to be placed on illegal platforms, which generally lack age verification, responsible gambling mechanisms, and regulatory oversight.

ISPs across Misiones have been instructed to enforce the block immediately, while the IPLyC continues to monitor suspicious sites through user reports and cooperation with other provinces.

This move aligns Misiones with broader national efforts: earlier this year, the province of Corrientes ordered the shutdown of 424 illegal gambling portals. Analysts see the ruling as a signal of intensifying enforcement in Argentina’s fragmented online gaming market, where provincial regulation dominates in the absence of federal oversight.
