Premier League Set to Return With More Than 100 Injury Concerns Across 20 Clubs
The Premier League resumes on October 10 after an extended international break, but clubs are preparing for the restart with a major availability problem: the latest tracker lists 118 injury and squad concerns across all 20 teams.
Premier League football returns on October 10 following an unusual 19-day break, with the September and October international windows merged under the revised FIFA calendar. National teams have been able to play up to four matches during the extended period, increasing concerns over player workload.
As of October 5, Squawka's updated availability tracker lists 118 cases across the 20 Premier League clubs, including confirmed absences and players whose fitness remains doubtful. Newcastle currently have the longest list with 12 concerns, followed by Brighton with 11 and Manchester United with 10.
Arsenal return against Leeds with several important fitness questions. William Saliba remains sidelined, while Kai Havertz, Ben White and Cristhian Mosquera are among the doubts. Declan Rice has returned to training after withdrawing from England duty.
Manchester United face Tottenham with Matthijs de Ligt and Manuel Ugarte on the injury list, while Kobbie Mainoo, Amad Diallo, Benjamin Sesko, Marcus Rashford and Noussair Mazraoui are among those whose availability remains uncertain. Tottenham also have several long-term absentees, including Xavi Simons and Dejan Kulusevski.
Liverpool have their own problems before one of the biggest fixtures of the weekend against Manchester City. Hugo Ekitike, Conor Bradley, Giovanni Leoni and Federico Chiesa are listed as unavailable, while Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo are doubts. City, meanwhile, are monitoring Antoine Semenyo and Nico O'Reilly, while Phil Foden will miss the game through suspension.
Chelsea also have several players being assessed ahead of their meeting with Bournemouth, including Reece James, Moises Caicedo and Jamie Gittens, although Cole Palmer has returned to training. Bournemouth suffered another setback during the international window when Alex Scott sustained a thigh injury that could keep him out for up to two months.
The first weekend back will include Manchester United against Tottenham on October 10 and Liverpool against Manchester City on October 11, making late fitness decisions particularly important for several leading clubs.
With the Premier League returning directly from an unusually long international window, squad depth could immediately become a major factor. The injury numbers will continue to change as players return to their clubs, but the scale of the current list again raises questions over workload and player welfare in an increasingly congested football calendar.
