Premier League Matchweek 9: Arsenal Make History at Anfield as Manchester City Lose Again

Arsenal claimed their first Premier League victory at Anfield in 14 years, Manchester City suffered a second consecutive defeat, and Manchester United's struggles continued as Matchweek 9 produced major developments in the title race.

Arsenal delivered the headline result of Premier League Matchweek 9, defeating Liverpool 1–0 at Anfield on November 1 to secure their first league victory at the stadium since 2012.

Kai Havertz scored the decisive goal in the 16th minute following an assist from Declan Rice. Liverpool pushed for an equaliser, with Florian Wirtz hitting the woodwork, but Mikel Arteta's side held on to move three points clear of Manchester City and nine ahead of Liverpool.

Manchester City's difficult run continued with a surprising 1–0 home defeat against Brighton. Yasin Ayari scored the only goal in the 11th minute, condemning Pep Guardiola's team to a second successive league loss after their previous defeat to Aston Villa.

Manchester United's problems also deepened as Chelsea secured a 2–0 victory at Stamford Bridge. Morgan Rogers opened the scoring before Cole Palmer converted a penalty, increasing the pressure on United manager Michael Carrick.

Elsewhere, Tottenham defeated Crystal Palace 2–0, strengthening their position near the top of the table. Bournemouth beat Leeds United 2–0, while Brentford secured an identical victory against Nottingham Forest.

Coventry City continued their impressive campaign with a 3–1 win over Sunderland. Hull City and Ipswich Town shared four goals in a 2–2 draw, while Aston Villa drew 1–1 with Fulham.

The round concludes on November 2 with Newcastle United hosting Everton.

Arsenal's historic victory has reshaped the early title race, while Manchester City's consecutive defeats and Liverpool's growing deficit raise questions about their consistency. For Manchester United, another loss adds urgency to an increasingly difficult season.
