Premier League Matchweek 6: Manchester City Crush Liverpool as Chelsea and Coventry Shine After International Break
The Premier League returned after a three-week international break with 36 goals across ten matches, a dominant Manchester City victory at Anfield, Chelsea's five-goal performance and another disappointing result for Manchester United.
The sixth round of the 2026/27 Premier League season, played from October 10 to 12, delivered several surprises and crucial results as England's top clubs returned to domestic action following the extended international break.
The biggest result came at Anfield, where Manchester City defeated Liverpool 3–0 to maintain their perfect start to the season. Erling Haaland, Jérémy Doku and Rayan Cherki scored three second-half goals, extending City's winning streak to six league matches and strengthening their position at the top of the table.
Chelsea produced the round's highest-scoring victory, thrashing Bournemouth 5–1. Veteran midfielder Jordan Henderson, aged 36, was among the standout performers with two goals, while João Pedro also scored twice.
Manchester United's struggles continued with a 1–1 draw against Tottenham at Old Trafford. Bryan Mbeumo put United ahead, but Dominic Solanke secured a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser despite Spurs playing with ten men following Rodrigo Bentancur's dismissal.
Defending champions Arsenal recovered from a goal down to defeat Leeds United 2–1, with Bruno Guimarães scoring the winner. Brighton also impressed with a 2–0 away victory over Sunderland despite finishing with ten players.
One of the biggest surprises came from newly promoted Coventry City, who defeated Newcastle United 4–1. Elsewhere, Crystal Palace beat Nottingham Forest 3–1, Ipswich secured a late 2–1 comeback against Fulham, while Aston Villa–Brentford and Hull City–Everton both ended 2–2.
Manchester City remain the only team with a perfect record after six matches, while Everton and Brentford are also unbeaten. At the other end, Tottenham, Fulham and Bournemouth are still searching for their first victories.
With 36 goals, dramatic comebacks and unexpected results, Matchweek 6 provided an eventful return to Premier League football. City's flawless form makes them the early title favourites, while struggling clubs face increasing pressure ahead of the next round.
