The jackpot of the American lottery Powerball reached $1.09 billion. According to the lottery organisers, this happened after last Monday's drawing did not reveal the owner of the main prize.
The next drawing will be held on Saturday night. According to the lottery rules, the winner will be able to choose to receive the prize in full in equal instalments over 29 years or a lump sum payment, which in this case will amount to $465.1 million.
Recall that the odds of winning the Powerball lottery jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million. Powerball tickets cost $2 and are sold in 45 US states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.
The largest lottery win in 2023 was $1.73 billion, which came from a Powerball lottery ticket purchased in California. The jackpot was the second largest in the history of lotteries. The world record for the largest lottery win was set on 8 November 2022. The Powerball lottery ticket sold in the city of Altadena in the state of California won $2.04 billion.
