Power outage in Zambia undermines gambling sector
Zambia's gambling industry has faced challenges due to widespread power shortages. Operators have to deal with frequent power outages that disrupt the operation of vending machines and terminals, which affects not only the level of service, but also compliance with regulatory and tax requirements by companies.
Earlier, the Government approved a bill aimed at modernizing the sector by strengthening regulation and replacing outdated laws, but the implementation of the initiative faced an energy problem. In order to submit reports and monitor on time, operators have to install backup generators and solar panels. Companies also had to request flexible reporting mechanisms from the regulator in the face of unstable electricity.
