Philippines’ DigiPlus Applies for Online Gambling Licenses in South Africa
DigiPlus, one of the Philippines’ largest gaming companies, has filed for three separate licenses in South Africa’s Western Cape as part of its international expansion strategy.
DigiPlus Interactive Corp. announced that it has submitted applications for a national license, a bookmaker license, and a bookmaker premises license with the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board. If approved, the move would allow the company to operate online betting and gaming platforms in South Africa, one of the continent’s fastest-growing regulated markets.
The company stated that its push into Africa reflects its goal of diversifying revenue streams and entering high-growth markets. DigiPlus already operates successful online platforms in the Philippines, including BingoPlus and ArenaPlus, and is now targeting international opportunities.
According to DigiPlus president Andy Tsui, the company sees “tremendous potential” in South Africa’s regulated betting sector. The applications come amid rising competition in Africa, where local regulators are tightening oversight while demand for online gaming continues to expand.
If granted, the licenses would make DigiPlus one of the few Asian gaming operators with a direct footprint in Africa. Analysts note that this move could encourage further cross-border investment in the region’s gambling industry.
