Paraguay’s Conajzar and Apoja join forces to enforce new gaming law
The National Gambling Commission of Paraguay (Conajzar), in coordination with the Association of Gambling Operators (Apoja), held a meeting with mayors from several municipalities in the Central Department— including Lambaré, Villeta, Mariano Roque Alonso, and Limpio— to present details of the country’s new gambling legislation. The updated law introduces stricter controls and tougher penalties targeting illegal or unlicensed gambling activities.
Carlos Liseras, president of Conajzar, stated that the new regulation aims to modernize the legal framework and strengthen oversight measures to curb tax evasion within the sector.
Apoja president Lorena Rojas emphasized that individuals who operate or enable the illegal use of slot machines could face prison terms of up to five years. She also highlighted that the association has launched a public digital platform allowing citizens to report unlicensed gambling through a QR code-enabled system.
The organization added that local municipalities are responsible for authorizing and inspecting slot machine venues and are also tasked with preventing the operation of these machines in public spaces.
According to Carlos Liseras, the enforcement of the new legislation could potentially double Conajzar’s revenue from license fees once the reforms are fully implemented.
