On September 22, a meeting will be held between Meta executives and Malaysian Communications Minister Datuk Fahim Fajil
On September 22, 2025, Malaysia's Minister of Communications, Datuk Fahim Fajil, will meet with Meta executives to discuss measures to prevent illegal gambling advertising posted on Facebook.
The organization of the meeting was the result of the Malaysian Government's displeasure regarding Meta's response to complaints about the posting of illegal content on one of their sites. So, despite the fact that most of the gambling-related content was removed after complaints, this kind of advertising still continues to appear. Communications Minister Datuk Fahim Fajil said: "The complaints we have filed from the beginning to the present day, for example, about online gambling ads paid for with a credit card, were intended to draw Facebook's attention to the fact that such content is prohibited in Malaysia."
The minister also said that the authorities are not going to block Facebook, recognizing the economic and social role of the platform for the Malaysian population, but they want to ensure that the company complies with the laws of the country.
