North West Gambling Board organizes virtual hearings on 3 applications that can change the industry

The Northwest Gambling Council announced the opportunity to participate in virtual hearings on three license applications, in accordance with the Northwest Gambling Act of 2001.

The hearings will be held at Microsoft Teams, where it is planned to gather the opinion of the community on changes in the ownership and operation of gambling in the province. These changes could bring significant changes to the gambling industry in the Northwest, so opinion gathering will take place before the board of directors makes a decision. Thus, the authorities are trying to reduce the risks of growing gambling addiction, while ensuring economic benefits for society, for example, by creating new jobs and attracting investment in the tourism sector.

The first application was received from K2022825938 (Pty) Ltd, requesting permission to acquire a 100% stake in the bookmaker owned by Omphe Tshiamo (Pty) Ltd. If the application is approved, the business will be renamed Betfred.

Further, an application was received from Varosi 1975 (Pty) Ltd with a request to approve the acquisition of a 100% financial stake in the Carousel casino and move it to a new location in accordance with section 45 of the Act.

The latest application is a joint request for the transfer of a bingo license from Pioneer Bingo North West (Pty) Ltd to Galaxy Bingo Klerksdorp (Pty) Ltd, a major player with several platforms throughout South Africa.
