Nigeria’s National Lottery Regulatory Commission issues two new licenses
On October 31, the National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC) of Nigeria granted operational licenses to two new companies, D'crowd Afrik Ltd and Awalife Ltd. During this occasion, Director-General Lanre Gbajabiamila of the NLRC stressed the importance of compliance, timely reporting, and the remittance of lottery proceeds to the Federal Government.
The NLRC, established under the National Lottery Act of 2005, is the primary regulatory body overseeing and regulating lottery and gaming activities in Nigeria. Under Gbajabiamila's leadership, the commission is tasked with ensuring that all operators adhere to the National Lottery Act and related regulations, as well as promoting responsible gaming practices.
In Nigeria, the gambling industry is subject to stringent regulation. The NLRC oversees gambling activities at the federal level, while state gaming boards handle regulation at the state level. Legal forms of gambling include lotteries, land-based casinos, and sports betting. However, activities such as roulette, dice games, and non-skilled card games are strictly prohibited.
