Nigeria's Enugu State launches initiative to regulate gaming and lottery
The Enugu State Government, led by Governor Dr. Peter Mbah, has launched an initiative to regulate the gaming and lottery sector in Nigeria, aiming to curb fraudulent practices and enhance public trust.
During a stakeholder forum titled "Building a Sustainable Gaming Environment in Enugu State," Executive Secretary of the Gaming and Lottery Commission, Prince Arinze Arum, detailed plans to revamp the industry by addressing loopholes and fostering transparency.
The commission has begun a license revalidation exercise and temporarily halted new licensing to ensure compliance with strict regulatory standards. Arum emphasized a zero-tolerance policy for illegal operators, requiring all gaming activities to operate from permanent, professional outlets.
Advanced technology is being introduced to monitor and standardize gaming operations, streamlining processes and enhancing oversight. Arum stated that these measures would ensure transparency, efficiency, and uniformity in the sector.
The reforms aim to create a sustainable ecosystem for legitimate gaming practices while restoring public confidence in the industry.
