New requirement to open a casino is proposed to be introduced in Nepal
A new requirement for opening casinos are proposed to be introduced in Nepal. This follows from the bill on combating money laundering.
According to the local publication Kathmandu Post, the bill was last Wednesday approved by the Committee on Law, Justice and Human Rights of the House of Representatives.
In particular, it included a provision according to which the opening of casinos is prohibited within five kilometers of Nepal's borders with other states. Currently, the opening of casinos is prohibited within three kilometers of the country's borders.
According to the parliament, the move is aimed at controlling possible cross-border crimes related to casinos.
It should be noted that there are currently 28 licensed casinos in Nepal. 18 gambling establishments are located on the border with India, and ten operate in the capital Kathmandu.
