National Lottery of Benin alerts public to new lottery scams

The National Lottery of Benin (LNB) has issued a warning to its customers regarding a new form of online fraud being carried out in its name. In an official statement, the institution, led by Gaston Zossou, has called on the public to exercise caution and report any suspicious activities.

Cybercriminals are exploiting the image of the National Lottery of Benin by setting up fake sports betting schemes on social media. The LNB has sounded the alarm, notifying the public of this new type of scam. The fraudsters pose as LNB agents, creating groups on social media platforms to deceive unsuspecting individuals.

Their method involves luring victims into these groups by promising huge winnings. They then ask for an initial payment of 5,000 CFA francs, claiming it will increase the chances of success in sports betting. Afterward, the scammers provide fake "winning numbers" in exchange for more money. Once the LNB announces the actual results of the games, the fraudsters tell their victims they've won, demanding further payments to "claim their prizes." After the money is sent, the scammers cut off all communication, leaving the victims with no recourse.

"We want to emphasize that these activities are in no way affiliated with our organization. It is crucial for our customers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior," warned the National Lottery of Benin. The LNB urges the public to resist falling for false promises of easy winnings and stay alert to this new form of fraud.
