National Lottery Authority to boost Ghana's football clubs under Vice President's plan
In Ghana, Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has announced a bold initiative to support the revival of the Ghana Premier League and bolster the country's football clubs.
During the launch of the NPP’s 2024 Manifesto, Dr. Bawumia unveiled a detailed plan aimed at revitalizing the league, which has been struggling due to financial difficulties and declining fan engagement.
Dr. Bawumia proposed the creation of a Sports Employment Module, which would be funded by the National Lottery Authority and the Gaming Commission. This initiative is designed to help Premier League clubs cover operational expenses, including player salaries, and enhance their commercial viability. Additionally, the plan includes providing each Premier League club with a bus to ease transportation challenges, allowing teams to concentrate on player development and competition.
He emphasized that his government would actively support the Premier League and its clubs by implementing policies through the National Lottery Authority and the Gaming Commission to establish and fund the Sports Employment Module, ensuring sustainable financial support for the teams.
