At the World Lottery Summit in Paris on October 24, 2024, Younes El Mechrafi, CEO of Morocco’s Marocaine des Jeux et des Sports (MDJS), was re-elected as Vice President of the World Lottery Association (WLA). This new two-year term on the executive committee marks his continued leadership alongside eight other elected members.

El Mechrafi has held positions within the WLA’s executive committee since 2014 and has served as Chair of the Audit Committee since 2018, stepping into the Vice President role in 2022. His re-election underscores the MDJS’s growing influence within the global lottery community, highlighting Morocco’s dedication to responsible gaming, sports integrity, and ethical governance.

The WLA, with more than 150 lottery members from 80 countries, is a leading authority in the lottery and betting industry, setting high standards for corporate responsibility and responsible gaming. The organization provides support to its members to uphold best practices, focusing on social responsibility, game security, and integrity.

“This re-election is a great honor for Morocco and for the MDJS team,” said El Mechrafi. “The confidence entrusted to us by the international community reflects recognition of our years of dedication to the public interest and the growth of Moroccan sports in particular.”

In addition to his role at the WLA, El Mechrafi has been a founding executive member of United Lotteries for Integrity in Sports (ULIS) since 2015. ULIS, formerly known as the Global Lottery Monitoring System (GLMS), is the WLA’s global watchdog against match-fixing and betting-related threats to sports integrity. El Mechrafi has been consistently re-elected to this position, underscoring his enduring commitment to safeguarding sports worldwide.
