Mexican government plans to ban slot machines in casinos
The government of Mexico intends to ban slot machines in casinos. The corresponding decree has been prepared by the Secretariat of the Interior of Mexico (Segob). The document has already been published on the website of the National Commission for Regulatory Improvement.
According to the content of the decree, after the expiration of licenses and their subsequent renewal, casino operators will not be allowed to conduct gambling with the use of slot machines in gambling establishments.
Another change proposed by the government will be the reduction of the validity period of casino operators' licenses from 25 years to 15 years.
Currently, there are 444 casinos operating in Mexico. Another 408 licenses previously issued for this activity are not being used. Slot machines annually contribute approximately 4.7 billion Mexican pesos (273 million US dollars) to the country's budget.
