Mauritius Esports Regional Summit 2025 positions island as hub for African and Indian Ocean esports
Mauritius has become a key meeting point for Africa’s fast-growing esports scene by hosting the Mauritius Esports Regional Summit 2025, bringing together top players, ecosystem leaders and institutions from across the continent and the Indian Ocean.
Held on 20–21 November at the Caudan Arts Center and the Institut français de Maurice, the Mauritius Esports Regional Summit 2025 gathered around one hundred institutional representatives, federations, experts and creators from Africa and Indian Ocean islands. Hosted by SAGES Africa with support from the French Embassy in Mauritius, the Indian Ocean Commission, AFD and MAU Esports, the summit focused on regional cooperation, education and sustainable ecosystem growth.
Alongside the discussions, the Islands Esports Champions Tekken 8 tournament — featuring women’s and mixed competitions on PS5 with a US$2,500 prize pool — showcased emerging talent from the region and underscored the event’s emphasis on inclusion and diversity in competitive gaming.
Panel sessions addressed topics such as integrating esports into curricula, linking gaming to digital skills and employability, and clarifying the role of brands, media and public institutions in structuring the market. Organisers and partners say the summit marks a new benchmark for coordinated esports development in Africa and the Indian Ocean, with Mauritius positioned as a regional hub for future cross-border initiatives.
