Matchweek 35 reshapes both ends of the Premier League table

Tottenham Hotspur climbed out of the relegation zone with a crucial 2-1 win over Aston Villa, Manchester United edged Liverpool 3-2 in a five-goal thriller at Old Trafford, and Arsenal beat Fulham 3-0 to move six points clear of Manchester City at the top — although City still have two games in hand.

Tottenham delivered one of the most important results of their season by beating Aston Villa 2-1 away from home. Spurs took control early through Conor Gallagher and Richarlison before Emiliano Buendía pulled one back late for Villa, but the visitors held on for a victory that lifted them into 17th place on 37 points, one point above West Ham and out of the bottom three.

At Old Trafford, Manchester United defeated Liverpool 3-2 in one of the weekend’s biggest matches. United raced into a two-goal lead through Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Šeško, Liverpool fought back through Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo, but Kobbie Mainoo scored the decisive winner to seal all three points. The result also confirmed United’s return to the Champions League, adding extra weight to an already high-profile rivalry win.

Arsenal, meanwhile, responded strongly to recent setbacks by sweeping Fulham aside 3-0 at the Emirates. Viktor Gyökeres scored twice and Bukayo Saka also found the net as Mikel Arteta’s side moved to 76 points from 35 matches. That leaves the Gunners six points ahead of Manchester City, but the title race remains very much alive because City have played only 33 league games so far.

Taken together, Matchweek 35 brought a major shift at both ends of the table. Tottenham have given themselves a real chance of survival, Manchester United strengthened their status near the top four, and Arsenal restored pressure on City in the title race. The gap is now significant on paper, but with City holding two games in hand, the championship battle remains far from settled.
